Readers of AutoBild Sportscar vote MTM Audi A1 on 1st place

A total of 71,000 readers of “AutoBild Sportscar” magazine participated in the voting for “AUTO BILD SPORTSCARS 2011” and chose their masters of about 300 tests and driving reports of the last 12 months. From 12th August to 14th October readers could evaluate 17 categories: eight series sports cars, eight tuning cars and small series. MTM, manufacturer of increased power rated Audis, achieved two places on the podium: the MTM A1 1.4 TFSI got 16,94 percent of the votes for “tuning compact cars” and distanced the 2nd place about four percent. In the category “tuning sports cars” the MTM R8 V10 Biturbo is on 3rd place.

Bilstein Launches Coilover Options for Audi A1

Bilstein, the respected German manufacturer of dampers and suspension systems has released two beautifully engineered enhancement packages for VAG’s popular new Audi A1.

The two new kits offer OEM levels of fit, finish and ride quality, coupled with significant improvements in handling. Both have been designed and produced entirely in-house in Bilstein’s cutting-edge German production facilities.

Thanks to precision-machined threaded steel bodies, the Bilstein kits offer 20mm of ride height adjustment from a lower starting point, which equates to a drop of between -30mm and -50mm. This is regarded by most engineers to be the most that it is possible to lower a vehicle before handling becomes adversely affect and safety is compromised.

The B14 kit comes with a pre-set damping rate, allowing the owner to fine-tune the ride height and stance to suit their own needs, whilst the B16 kit represents the pinnacle of suspension performance. Each damper unit has nine steps of adjustment, with bump and rebound being changed together in a carefully pre-set ratio to ensure that the car retains impeccable manners. With a damping range that offers either limo smoothness, track control or indeed, anything in-between, the B16 kit truly allows you to have two cars in one.

Eibach Audi A1

Short bodywork, a low weight and direct handling: Such compact cars are pre-destined for large amounts of driving fun. As a result Eibach and its partner Bilstein consciously chose the Audi A1 as their latest project car. Especially when it comes to the quality of material and equipment, the car from Ingolstadt offers an ambience which is anything but a matter of course even in the next class up. Of course the setup of the bodywork determines when a new B12 Pro-Kit is used.

The combination of Eibach Pro-Kit performance springs and the Bilstein mono-tube / upside-down gas pressure shock absorbers have been precisely adjusted to each other in a driving test and offer a performance which can hardly be beaten when it comes to precision. Here the altered characteristics compared to the series standard make just as big a contribution as the lowering of the centre of gravity by up to 40 millimetres. The measure is also optically underlined by the purist-dynamic curves of the Audi bodywork.

In spite of its taut characteristics the A1 still offers plenty of comfort, which is a real work of art in particular with regards to the short wheelbase of the platform. When it comes to performance the selected version with the economic and 122 HP strong 1.4 TFSI also has what it takes to be a touring car.

To ensure that the project car cannot just pull clear of its “opponents” on winding roads, a high-quality performance kit from JH Motortuning is used, which is applied without direct interventions into the engine control unit. Now, the smallest Audi offers around 157 HP.

The fact that this car is not to be trifled with is clear acoustically from afar by the Remus exhaust system with its two 84 millimetre exhausts.

The sides of the racer are adorned by 8x18 inch type XA Borbet light metal alloys. The cross-spoke wheels are characterised by a strong geometric spoke layout as well as the bicolour surface finish and the polished design elements on the outer alloy rim. The rear wheels were fitted with a 12 mm Spacer/side.

Eibach therefore presents a harmonious project car which is not aloof, but offers each A1 owner affordable, everyday and desirable options.

Superchips tunes the Audi A1

The Audi A1 has won plaudits for its build quality, style and frugality. And now thanks to the performance electronic experts at Superchips, owners of the 122 PS Audi A1 1.4 TFSI Sport can enjoy the performance to match with the launch of a performance boosting ECU remap.

Superchips' in-house engineers have undertaken a detailed examination of the A1's 1390cc, direct injection, turbocharged engine and the Audi's Bosch MED17 ECU, enabling them to identify opportunities to safely increase engine performance via a high performance ECU remap.
